MCHS SWIMMING

The Massena Lady Raiders recently swam past Gouverneur and Ogdensburg.

In Ogdensburg on Oct. 16, Massena claimed all but two events in their 102-68 win.

Keely Thompson-Cook took second in the 400-meter, fourth in the 200-meter medley and third in the 200-meter relay races. She also finished second in the 500-meter freestyle endurance race.

Abigail Elman and Sheyenne Hays each took two individual first places.

Elman paced the 100-meter freestyle with 1:01.01 and 100-meter breaststroke with1:20.

Hays topped the 200-meter individual medley in 2:43.22 and the 100-meter butterfly in 1:12.46.

Rebecca Lobdell won the 200-meter freestyle in 2:31.06.

Hailey Webster championed the 500-meter freestyle with a time of 7:18.78.

Hannah Laneuville was the victor in the 100 backstroke with 1:17.37.

By their powers combined, Elman, Hays, Sydney Lewis and Sydnee Carroll won the 200-meter medley relay with a 2:11.80. They also took the 400-meter freestyle relay in 4:36.

Chelsea Montroy had the lone individual win for OFA, taking the 50-meter freestyle sprint in 27.87.

Three nights earlier, they beat Gouverneur 63-31.

Massena won eight events, Hays and Elman, each winning pairs of solo races. Hays topped the 200-meter individual medley in 2:45.53 and the 100-meter butterfly in 1:15.31. Elman bested the 100-meter freestyle in 1:00.63 and the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:20.06.

Sydnee Carroll paced the 50-meter freestyle sprint in 30.16.

By their powers combined, Elman, Hays, Carroll and Lewis were victors in the 200-meter medley relay with 2:26.53.

Lewis, Carroll, Laneuville and Laura Dowdy won the 200-meter freestyle relay in 2:05.12.

Lewis, Hays, Carroll and Elman closed out the meet with a 400-meter freestyle relay in 4:37.68.

MCS LADY SOCCER

The Massena Lady Raiders soccer squad added a win to their record against Tupper Lake, later falling to Canton. Meanwhile, their male counterparts lost to Potsdam.

On Wednesday, Oct. 14, Massena beat the host Tupper Lake Lumberjacks 4-1. Kyrsten Stone and Maddie Mailhot each scored before the half. About seven minutes into the second half, Mailhot made it 3-0 with an assist going to Stone. Sophia Martin scored the lone Tupper Lake goal, followed by a Massena goal from Taylor Convertini with the assist going to Savanah Arney. Mikenna Merry made two saves in the Massena net. Casey O'Connor denied 19 shots for Tupper Lake.

Two nights later, Massena fell 4-1 to Canton. Merry made 10 saves.

On Thursday, Oct. 15, the boys team lost to visiting Potsdam 3-1. Nick Henrie scored the lone Massena goal, unassisted, around the 11-minute mark. Turner Thomas denied three Sandstoner scoring attempts.

MCS FOOTBALL

Montana Pierce scored the winning touchdown, bringing the Massena Red Raiders to victory in their regular season closer against the Potsdam Sandstoners on Friday, Oct. 16.

The Raiders were coming off of handing the Canton Golden Bears their first 2015 loss the previous Friday.

Quarterback Maddox Merry rushed for a touchdown late in the opening frame. He ran a quarterback keeper from one yard out, following the effort by scampering in a two-point conversion.

Sandstoner running back Brandon Buffham tied the game in the fourth quarter on a five-yard run followed by a successful two-point conversion. Merry tossed a 22-yard pass to Montana with less than five minutes to go in the closing stanza to lead Massena to a 14-8 decision.

Massena's Maurer rushed 74 yards on 13 carries.

Buffham recorded 187 yards on 33 carries. His squadmate Kaleb Parker ran 11 times for 69 yards.

Potsdam outdid Massena 307 yards to 156, but Massena stopped them twice in the red zone.

Massena will take on the Section 7 Class B champion on Oct. 23 in Massena.

MCS VOLLEYBALL

The Lady Raiders added yet another win to their thus far perfect 2015 record, beating visiting Tupper Lake on Thursday, Oct. 15.

Massena fell in the first set 21-25, returning to take the next three 25-17, 25-14 and 25-9.

Nina Rourke served up 10 points.

Cayla Hinkley had 16 assists.

Alyssa Eubank notched 19 service points and eight kills.

Jackie Lamica served 10 points.

Their last two regular season games were to have been Oct. 19 in Malone and Oct. 21 at home against Salmon River.
