Massena 3, Salmon River 0
On Tuesday, October 6, the Lady Shamrocks suffered a disappointing 3-0 loss, at home, to the Massena Red Raiders with scores of 25-22, 25-16, 31-29. Each game saw each team trading off leading the game. The Lady Red Raiders outlasted a determined Salmon River in the third game.
Tatum LaFrance led the Lady Raiders with 13 service points and 19 assists. Sabrina Sunday dominated the net with 12 kills and two blocks while Aryanna Jacobs tallied seven points and four kills. Alyssa Eubanks struck for five kills and a block and teammate Tianna Back worked hard for 24 digs.
Raven Oakes tallied six points and six assists for the Shamrocks. Mara Lazore worked the net for six kills and tallied four points while Tristan Cook-Hasty and Brittany Brooks handed out five kills each.
The next day the Lady Shamrocks were on the road to Canton and did not dwell on the loss to Massena as they swept the Golden Bears 3-0 by scores of 25-12, 25-13, 25-16.
Raven Oakes worked the service line for 18 points and eight assists. Mara Lazore tallied 10 points, four kills and two assists while Avery Benedict added five service points. Elizabeth Fleming contributed two kills.
Girls Soccer
Massena 1, Salmon River 0
On Thursday, October 8, in Fort Covington, the Lady Raiders struck first 10 minutes into the first half when Shanley Burke finished off a play by Devin Kelly. Massena (9-3-1, 7-3-1) was able to hold off the Lady Shamrocks to make it the game winner.
Mikenna Merry stopped three shots for the Lady Raider shut out while Lauren Martin made two saves for Salmon River (4-9, 4-8).
"It was a back and forth game," commented Coach Liz Durfee. "We had our opportunities and didn't take care of them".
Boys Soccer
Salmon River 4, Gouverneur 3
On Wednesday, October 7, the Salmon River varsity soccer squad hosted Gouverneur. The Shamrocks traded goals with the Wildcats and outlasted them, 4-3.
Rasentonkwa Tarbell put the Shamrocks on the scoreboard first with the help of Jordan Bigness. Gouverneur answered back 12 minutes later when William Foster converted off a pass from Aaron Stevens.
Four minutes into the second, Colby Cook got past the Wildcat goalie off a play set up by Jordan Bigness. Thirteen minutes later Matthew Kopchinski evened up the score by connecting on a penalty kick.
The Shamrocks got back to back goals less than a minute apart with 12 minutes left in regulation time. Cook struck for a second when he converted off a pass from Bigness. Antoine Domino snuck one in and would eventually be the game winner. Gouverneur didn't give up and Foster got his second goal of the game with six minutes remaining.
Zach Smith stopped four balls for the Shamrocks (5-8, 3-6) while Nolan Breckenridge had six saves for the Wildcats (0-9, 0-8).
