October is Child Abuse Awareness Month and Akwesasne Child and Family Services (ACFS) will be out in full force all month spreading awareness and inviting you to spread awareness too. When you do, you have a chance at some fabulous prizes.
Starting on Thursday, October 1st the "Purple Patrol" will be on the lookout for vehicles that have the "Prevent Child Abuse" purple ribbon magnets, pins, shirts and family vehicle decal stickers. This will be all over Akwesasne, all month. If they see you, they will give you a ticket and you MUST call ACFS and dial the extension on the ticket to enter to win.
Community members can also get in on the action by stopping in the lobby of Kanonhkwatsheriio and picking up promotional items and filling out a ballot.
Drawings will be every Friday and winners will be announced on CKON.
Come in to ACFS and claim your prize.
At the end of the month there will be grand prize drawings, which will be announced on CKON on October 30.
In addition, the ACFS Resource Department will be doing a Facebook trivia. Make sure you like them on Facebook! They will post one question a week for three weeks in October. Questions will be posted on Monday and you have until Thursday to answer.
Drawings will be held on Friday and also announced on CKON.
They will also be giving away pocket LCD flashlights, which will come in handy on Halloween.
Each week the ACFS Purple Patrol will be in a different district at schools, daycares and MCA offices.
The week of October 13-16 they will be in the Tsisnaihne district.
The week of October 19-23 they will be in Kanatakon.
The week of October 26-30 they will be on Kawehnoke.
The Purple Patrol will be at MCA offices to see how you help raise awareness!
Show them any way you want, be creative, how you create awareness. They will be at MCA offices in each district on the following days:
Tsisnaihne – Thursday, October 15
Kanatakon – Thursday, October 22
Kawehnoke – Thursday, October 29
If your office can't participate on that day, call the ACFS office and make alternative arrangements. The office winners will be based on a drawing this year.
