A Voice from the Eastern Door
The school year is a little over a month old and the St. Regis Mohawk School had their day for fun and games.
Last Friday, October 2, the annual event took place under cold and windy conditions but that did little to dampen the spirits of the students and teachers alike. The event featured Belly Buttons the Clown with balloon animals, bouncy houses, treats and games. The St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police department was on hand with some of their vehicles to show the kids and the Akwesasne Task Force on the Environment was there with fresh apple cider. Those apples came from the Solomon Apple Orchard in Hogansburg and also the Robert Moses Nature Center brought some animals and other wildlife samples, which was one of the more popular attractions.
There was also an obstacle course to test the athletic skills of the students and some were just happy kicking the soccer ball around. The students were also invited to buy cotton candy and other treats which warmed them up on that chilly fall-like day.
