It was a busy week for Salmon River fall sports with some losses, first wins and undefeated streaks
SRCS Boys soccer
FA 1, Salmon River 0 (OT)
The visiting Malone Huskies outlasted the Shamrocks with seven minutes left in overtime. Stephen Marshall finished off a play started by Joey Brown to score the only goal of the game. Jason Spaulding made eight saves to earn the shutout while Zach Smith stopped seven balls for Salmon River.
Indian River 2, Salmon River 0
The Shamrock booters traveled to SUNY Canton to play Indian River in a non-league match up. The Warriors scored off a penalty kick and kicked in another goal to net a 2-0 win over the Shamrocks. Zach Smith finished with 11 saves for the Shamrocks while David Goldsmith handled three saves for the Warriors.
Salmon River 5, Gouverneur 1
Antoine Domino got things started for the Shamrocks when he scored the first and only goal of the first half, assisted by Dylan Cook. Cook upped the score 2-0 five minutes into the second half when he finished off a play set up by Rasentonkwa Tarbell. Domino tallied another goal and an assist while Jordan Bigness and Jacob Bero notched a goal apiece. Karhatiron Perkins added two helpers for the Shamrock's first Central Division win of the season.
Zach Smith turned away three balls in the Shamrock net while James McIntosh finished with 12 saves for the Wildcats.
SRCS Girls Soccer
Canton 1, Salmon River 0
The visiting Canton Bears scored eight minutes into the second half and that would be all they needed for a victory over the Lady Rocks. Lauren Martin had four saves for Salmon River while Katie Clemmer posted six saves.
"I would like to credit my defense for a great game today" commented Coach Liz Durfee. "They took away numerous chances and controlled a lot of crosses and balls in the air. We had our moments on offense but need to capitalize on those quality moments".
Potsdam 3, Salmon River 0
Potsdam struck first in the first three minutes of the game and then twice in the last seven minutes left in regulation time. McKenzie Martin made seven saves for Potsdam while Lauren Martin posted six saves for Salmon.
FA 2, Salmon River 0
Gabrielle Collins scored the first goal for Malone when she converted off a pass from Brooke Monette just 12 minutes in the game. Abigail Collins scored an unassisted goal 15 minutes into the second to give the Lady Huskies a 2-0 victory over the Lady Rocks.
Lauren Martin turned aside seven balls in the Salmon River effort while Victoria Hanna had four saves in the shut out.
SRCS Girls Volleyball
Salmon River 3, Gouverneur 0
The Lady Shamrocks pushed their unbeaten record to 6-0 after a 3-0 sweep over Gouverneur, at home, by scores of 25-13, 25-11, 25-9. Raven Oakes served up 18 points and nine assists to lead the Lady Shamrocks. Brittany Brooks added 13 service points as well as two kills. Mara Lazore worked the net with nine kills while Tristan Cook-Hasty logged seven service points.
Salmon River 3, Brushton-Moira 0
Raven Oakes was a dominant force at the service line with 27 points and six assists as Salmon River claimed victory over Brushton- Moira with scores of 25-5, 25-15, 25-15 at BMC. Tsiiowisonte Laffin added seven service points while Elizabeth Fleming worked the frontline for six kills. Brittany Brooks ( 6 kills) and Avery Benedict added five service points each.
SRCS Swimming
Canton 70, Salmon River 23
Caroline Russell was the lone first place individual finisher for the Lady Shamrocks for the 50 Freestyle with a time of 28: 77 seconds. She also placed third in the 100 breaststroke while helping her team of Marli Conners, Caeleigh Hill and Kariwiiostha Dupree win the freestyle relay in 2:11.49.
Gouverneur 57, Salmon River 36
Caroline Russell accounted for the two individual wins posted by Salmon River, leading the 50 freestyle in 28:84 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 1:05.95. She then teamed up with Destiny Boardway, Katrina oakes and Alexis Terrance to win the freestyle relay in 4:57.63.
SRCS Cross Country
The Salmon River Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams hosted their fourth annual Mud Run Invitational last Saturday.
The Salmon River Varsity boys took fourth place with Saranac Lake taking top honors. Tyler Shorette was first for Salmon River and third overall, running the 5K course in a time of 17:54.09 . He was followed by teammate Colin Benedict in a time of 19:49.11 with Cody Pickering running in 21:07.64. Kody D'Aze ran a 21:48 and Brandon Parent and Sose George were close together with times of 22:05 and 22:05.10 respectively. Tyson Thomas ran a 23:15 and Charles Thomas finished in 24:22. Kurt Leroux rounded out the team times with 32:40.
The Shamrock girls did not have a full team to place in the standings but they did post individual times. Alaina Hart crossed the finish line first for the Lady Shamrocks in a time of 24:40.28. Tiffany Connors was next with a 25:25.30 while Tekaritha George finished in 26:17. Noreen Bautista posted a time of 28:07 .
