Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service Media Release

On September 2, 2015, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service began an investigation into the deaths of 2 men after the Seadoo they were travelling on capsized near the east end of Cornwall Island on the St. Lawrence River.

Investigation has revealed that the 3 passengers on the Seadoo may have recently entered Canada from India. The names of the deceased cannot be released since their next of kin have yet to be located and notified.

The driver of the Seadoo, Louis J. McDonald, 36, of Snye, Quebec, has been charged by the Akwesasne Mohawk Police with:

• 2 counts of Criminal Negligence causing death

• 1 count of Conspiracy to commit an indictable offense

• 1 count of Breach of Probation

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service would like to acknowledge the assistance provided by the Canada Border Service Agency Enforcement and Intelligence Cornwall, Ontario office, the Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department, the Cornwall and Akwesasne Ambulance Services and especially the civilian efforts who successfully pulled the third passenger from the river.
