A Voice from the Eastern Door
Tensions have escalated again as various factions of the Cayuga Indian Nation struggle for control of tribal businesses.
Greg Cotterill reports there was unrest this afternoon at Lakeside Trading in Seneca Falls when a group of Unity Council members took several hundred cartons of cigarettes from the store. They stacked them up on the lawn, and then set them on fire.
This fight is betwen factions of the Unity Council. Burning the cigarettes was a symbol some of the members are not profit-driven. The Unity Council has been running the Seneca Falls store on Route 89 since April 2014 when they took over the store from the members of the nation that support leader Clint Halftown.
The store and gas station on Route 89 is closed until further notice.
