MARSHA A. WATSON

MASSENA – Marsha A. Watson, 72, of Massena and Crestwood, KY, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2015, at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where she had been admitted a week ago, after a couple months of failing health.

Marsha was born September 23, 1942, in Syracuse, daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Leafe Solar. She graduated from Massena High School in 1960 and Mercy School of Nursing in Watertown in 1964. She married Joseph E. Watson on July 22, 1989, at the Andrew's Street Park, Massena, with Justice of the Peace, Leon Pernell officiating. Joseph predeceased her on October 1, 1994.

She was a Lieutenant in the Naval Nursing Corp., honorably discharged on June 26, 1970 in San Diego, CA. Marsha was a Registered Nurse at John Hopkin's Hospital in NYC for several years before returning to Massena, where she worked at Reynolds Metal Company for 31 years until her retirement in 2003.

Marsha was a member of the Amvets Gerald R. Roy Post #4, and served as Past Commander in 1976, as Adjutant Commander for the state in 1989-90, and was an active life-member in the Amvets Rifle Squad. She was a member of the Church of the Sacred Heart, and she enjoyed reading, knitting, craftwork, and loved animals.

Marsha is survived by her son, Joseph C. Solar, Syracuse; a step-daughter, Debra A. Watson and her wife Bobbi, and their daughter Amber, Crown Point, NY; a step-son, David and Ann Watson, and their children Joseph and Elizabeth, Norfolk, VA; a favorite cousin whom she lived with when not in Massena, Carol and Peter Rusello, Crestwood, KY; and various nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Mark R. Reilly officiating. Burial will be in Louisville Community Cemetery.
