AKWESASNE – Mrs. Elma June Jacobs, "Elmie", 84, of 33 Third Street Circle, St. Regis, passed away Sunday morning, June 7, 2015 at Tsiionkwanonhso:te – Cornwall Island Long Term Care Facility, after being in failing health for a short time.
Elmie was born June 4, 1931 in Syracuse, the daughter of the late Harold and Mildred Stanford Angell. On February 25, 1950, she married James M. Jacobs in Syracuse and later had the marriage blessed at St. Regis Catholic Church. He predeceased her on April 17, 1976.
Elmie was a homemaker raising her family of ten children. She also assisted her husband in the operation of their store and Post Office in St. Regis for many years. She was a communicant of St. Regis Catholic Church and loved to cook and play bingo.
She is survived by her children, Felicia Jacobs of Snye; Rhonda Jacobs of Akwesasne; Joyce Jock of Akwesasne; Roderick "Chum" Jacobs of Snye; Mark Jacobs of St. Regis; Naomi and Francis Lazore of Snye; Cameron Jacobs of Malone; and Foster Jacobs of Akwesasne; 17 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Cynceria Jacobs on July 28, 2000 and a granddaughter, Sarah Jacobs Mitchell at age 7.
Friends called at St. Kateri Center beginning Tuesday until 11:00 AM Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday 12:00 PM at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Anthony Osuji celebrating. Burial will follow in Kateri Cemetery.
