MASSENA -- The Salmon River Lady Shamrocks clinched the overall Section 10 crown on Wednesday, May 27, besting the Massena Lady Raiders 9-8.
This followed their winning the NAC regular season and Section 10 Class C titles
Both teams earned state playoff spots.
This is Salmon River’s first state tournament in five years of girls lacrosse.
In the Massena game, they started out with a 7-4 lead at halftime, holding the Lady Raider defense at bay through the second half.
Trysten Burns scored three goals. Mirabella Lazore scored once and assisted once. Jillian Benedict, Chrissy Benedict, Kyra Thompson, Jacelyn Lazore and Kiana Thompson each scored single goals. Morgan Thompson tallied a solo helper. Dava Thompson denied seven scoring attempts.
Massena’s Courtney Manley, Kyrsten Stone and Devin Kelly each scored two goals. Shanley Burke scored once with one helper. Abbey LaClair netted a singleton. Felicity Love had six saves.
After gaining a bye into the state quarterfinals, the Massena Lady Raiders lacrosse season came to an end on Saturday, May 23.
They lost to the Watertown Cyclones 18-2, finishing their season at 10-5.
Watertown took control of the game early on and never let go. Before two minutes had run off the clock, they scored the only three goals necessary. They built that into an 11-0 halftime lead over Massena.
They returned to the field to punch in four unanswered goals in six minutes.
Devin Kelly scored Massena’s only two goals in the last six minutes of the game, but not before Watertown had racked up 18 points.
Felicity Love tended the Massena net for the first half, denying five shots. Giselle Todd stood between the pipes in the second half.
Cyclone Olivia Miles scored a game-high five goals and four assists.
