A Voice from the Eastern Door
The Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation reports that on Saturday, May 16 at approximately 4:00 p.m., the Canadian inland vessel ALGOMA SPIRIT, carrying a cargo of grain, ran aground east of the Seaway International Bridge. There were no injuries reported and there was no pollution as a result of the grounding. Commercial navigation was suspended at 4:11 p.m. that afternoon. The vessel was refloated at 11:34 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, and, with an escort of two tugs, the ALGOMA SPIRIT proceeded to St.-Zotique Anchorage for further inspection and investigation by Transport Canada. At approximately 12:45 a.m., Monday, May 18, commercial navigation resumed in Sector 2 of the St. Lawrence Seaway and vessel traffic is currently moving normally.
