ARCHAEOLOGICAL FIELD PROJECT TEHOTIIENNAWAKON / ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Salary Level: $12.85 per hour
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Tehotiiennawakon, the technicians are responsible for assisting in the general duties pertaining to archaeological surveys and excavations. Field work will be under the supervision of a Crew Chief, Field Supervisor or Principal Investigator. Field crews are hired on a project basis. Anticipated fieldwork will occur throughout Ontario and Quebec.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Current admission for a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology or Archaeology is preferred. Experience in the field of Environment, Forestry, Native Studies, Anthropology, Archaeology, Surveying and/or History is preferred. Non-degree applicants will be considered if they can demonstrate successful completion of an archaeological field school and some knowledge of cultural resource management.
Incumbents should have knowledge and an understanding of equipment and technology used to perform recording of artifacts and archaeological surveys. Knowledge of basic field excavation techniques, ability to process (wash, catalog and mark) artifacts and properly fill out field and laboratory forms for documentation. Individual must have ample organizational skills, ability to manage time-critical situations in order to fulfill deadline requirements. Ability to search for pertinent facts and data, analyze and evaluate information, and form accurate conclusions satisfactorily and on schedule. Candidate must have the ability and willingness to travel and possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to use personal vehicle during course of employment.
