INFORMATIONAL SESSION HELD AT COUNCIL MEETING

TRIWIN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE DISCUSSED

At the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne’s weekly Chiefs Meeting today, May 12, 2015, representatives from Triwin Holding Group made a brief presentation on potential economic development projects being explored with Council. Members of Akwesasne’s business community were invited to be in attendance for the presentation.

While a Joint Venture Development Agreement has been prepared as a next step in furthering the relationship with Triwin Holding Group LTD., it has not been signed by Council and its content was the subject matter for the Council meeting. Council wants to emphasize that only after community consultation is made would any binding decisions on proposed economic projects be considered.

Allen Yapp, President of Triwin Holding Group, provided an overview of potential economic projects that are being explored with the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne. They include a Mega Distribution Center, outlet malls, hotels, and potential development of islands owned by the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne into resorts, marinas, and entertainment centers. Poster boards were provided that depicted what the various economic development projects could look like.

Following his presentation, Mr. Yapp responded to questions from the audience. When concerns were raised about potential environmental issues related to river development, he explained that they intend to be responsive to those concerns. When questions were raised about whether Triwin needed to include Akwesasne lands in the projects, Mr. Yapp responded that he was hoping to make the projects that included Akwesasne as a destination location.

Council has decided to table the Joint Venture Development Agreement to allow for more consultation with the community on the proposed projects.
