The state champion Massena Lady Raiders and Coach Jennifer Gray were honored by the New York State Senate in Albany on April 22 with Sen. Joe Griffo, R-Rome, and Sen. Patty Ritchie, R-Heuvelton, each spoke on behalf of the team.
"We sincerely applaud your athletic skills and talents and the championship that you all won, but also that you've done so well academically," Griffo told the team as they stood in Senate chambers. "You have a done a great justice, not only to the sport, but also to your community and to your school.
"You will remember these experiences. They are great memories to continue to have and share, but also you'll continue to be great role models as you go on in life to pursue other career choices and higher education."
The team has been lauded by Massena village and school board officials. New signs boasting the state crown now stand on Andrews Street, near the intersection of state Routes 37 and 56 and on state Route 37 near the school.
