Diabetes Alert Day Held at Let's Get Healthy

The Let's Get Healthy Program recently held a "Diabetes Alert Day" on Tuesday, March 24, 2015. In just a matter of minutes, you could have your blood sugar levels, blood pressure and oxygen levels checked and take home a health conscience gift. Besides checking your vitals, organizers held a variety of activities created to help participants become familiar with the warning signs of high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) and low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) and Type 2 Diabetes. The Lets Get Healthy Program handed out many prizes and gifts to all participants.

In addition, participants had the opportunity to sign up for the various programs they and the Seniors Center offers.

Seniors, 50 years young and up have the opportunity to take part in a six week "Healthy Choices for Healthy Living workshop series. The Healthy Choices for Healthy Living Workshop is a six-session, health education program for people dealing with a chronic health condition such as arthritis, heart disease, osteoporosis, depression or diabetes. The workshops goals are to enhance one's skills and ability to manage their health and maintain an active and fulfilling lifestyle. To help you feel better and increase your energy and to help you find relief from the pain, fatigue and difficult emotions. To take control of your life and to help you find ways do things you want to do each day. You can get connected to others and learn from others who have similar health issues.

As well, they are also offering "Powerful Tools for Caregivers", which is designed to help family caregivers take care of themselves while caring for a parent, spouse, friend or someone who lives at home, in a nursing home or across the country. You will learn how to reduce stress, improve self-confidence, communicate feelings better, balance your life, and increase your ability to make tough decisions and to find local resources easily.
