AKWESASNE MEMBERSHIP BOARD NOTICE

In order for the Akwesasne Membership Board to determine if an application for Akwesasne Membership will be approved or denied, the Board must consider the following criteria:

a) Whether the applicant was born in the community

b) Commitment to Mohawk culture, traditions, lifestyle, and knowledge of language and customs

c) Individual or family ties to Members of the community

d) Member of a Clan

e) Degree of involvement in the affairs of the community

f) Reasons for wanting to be a member

This criteria is in Section 11 of the Akwesasne Membership Code. The following persons have applied for Membership under the Akwesasne Membership Code.

Tiffany Phillips, age 43, is registered with Oneida Nation of the Thames. She is the daughter of Linda Phillips (Oneida) and David Hall (Akwesasne).

Andrew Chubb, age 15, son of Margaret Chubb (Akwesasne) and Joseph Lavare, a non-native.

Emily King, age 18, daughter of Della Lazore (Akwesasne) and Jeff King (Wasauksing First Nation).

Ruth Smoke, age 28, daughter of Laurie Smoke (Akwesasne) and Bonnie Martin (Six Nations).

CoreyJocko has applied for renewal of his Residency Permit.

Community Members have until Friday, April 3, 2015 to indicate whether they wish to make submissions regarding any of the above individuals by contacting the Office of Vital Statistics

At the Akwesasne Membership Board’s meeting of January 10, 2015, the Board denied the Residency Applications of Kristin Blasiak Lazore, Courtney Donaher, and Ricky Clause. The Board approved five year probationary membership for Shane Jamieson and granted him a one year Residency Permit. The Board granted full Akwesasne to Devin Delormier and Donovan Thompson, and cancelled the membership application of Jordan Johnson.

At the Akwesasne Membership Board’s February 14, 2015 meeting, the Board approved Probationary Membership for Paul Arbour, and granted full Akwesasne Membership to Chelsea Gagne, Lakeisha Mitchell, Kayden Cook-Jackson and Sarah Lafrance. The Board denied the Membership Application of John Richard Clark and approved for him a one year Residency Permit. The Board accepted Larry Thompson’s notice to remove his name from the Akwesasne Membership List.

At the Akwesasne Membership Board’s March 14 meeting, the Board granted full Akwesasne Membership to Kaetlyn Payette and approved Probationary Membership and one year Residency Permits to Joseph Thompson and Cody Cole. The Board also approved a one year residency permit for Elsie Johnson.

Community members wishing to appeal the Membership Board’s decisions on the above applicants have 30 days to appeal to the Council of Elders by contacting the Office of Vital Statistics.
