PARALEGAL

FULL TIME – TERM POSITION (ONE YEAR) JUSTICE DEPARTMENT

Salary Level: SP 09- $42,430.90

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Justice the incumbent is to be a team player in a legislative services position responsible to develop new and/or amend and finalize Akwesasne Laws, Charters, regulations and procedures, as defined under the Justice strategic plan in conformance with the mandate from Mohawk Council of Akwesasne. The development of laws, charters, regulations and procedures are within the regulatory jurisdiction of the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Post-Secondary education in Law and Security Administration; Paralegal; or Law Diploma; OR Ten years work experience as an Aboriginal Court Worker or Law Drafter. Ten years of relevant experience working with a First Nation organization.

Skills and Requirements include: Effective oral and written communication skills; Interpersonal skills, Knowledge of Federal/Provincial/State and Akwesasne Laws and court systems. Computer skills; Microsoft Office program. Knowledge of Mohawk culture and ability to speak the Mohawk language are considered assets. The incumbent must be able to work flexible hours. Must pass a CPIC. Be willing to use personal vehicle in the course of employment, have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel through International Border at both Cornwall, Ontario and Rooseveltown, NY.
