A Voice from the Eastern Door

SRCS Sports Review

This was a bittersweet week for the Salmon River Boys Basketball and Hockey teams. Sweet, because both teams had big wins heading into playoff week. It was also the week to say goodbye to all the graduating seniors. Senior Night is the night that the seniors play their final regular season varsity game at home. Seniors are honored for their hard work and dedication to their sport and team and can be very emotional for the athlete and parents.

"This is the biggest group of seniors I ever had," commented Boys' Varsity Basketball Coach, Shawn Martin. "They are a smart bunch with four of the seven with an 85 and above average. They have come a long way since North Franklin Youth Basketball as fourth graders with Tommy Smith and Pete Ghostlaw. They have a lot of heart and dedication". The seven seniors honored were Jordan Wood, Chance Monette, John Harvey, Joe Herne, Brandon Burdash, Tyler Brooks, and Russ Oakes.

Other seniors recognized were Destiny Thomas from the Cheerleading Team, Katy Patnode, Tatyanna Figueroa-Rosa and Kiera Jacobs from Pep band.

"Tonight was a huge win for us to get to playoffs," stated boys' Varsity Hockey Coach Tim Cook. "The seniors had a big impact on the evening. Senior Night is a big night. It's a night that parents say good-bye to the high school hockey life. The moment of the night was when Devlin's brother surprised him. It was a nice secret that I had". Yes, Coach Cook can keep a secret. Coach Cook received a phone call from a former player, Quinton Wilson, who is in the Navy. He told Coach Cook that he was coming home for a leave and wanted to surprise his little brother, senior goalkeeper, Devlin Laughing. It was a nice surprise for the whole family.

Senior Varsity Hockey members honored were Devlin Laughing, Stephen Tremblay, Tyren Boots, Sean David, Chad George and Quentin Thomas.
