A Voice from the Eastern Door

NIAWEN KOWA! NIAWEN KOWA! A notice of Appreciation and Gratitude

The St. Regis Mission Church Fund Raising Committee thanks everyone who helped with the two events we held this past week at Saint Kateri Hall. The fund raising events were a Valentine’s Day rose sale on Saturday and a Mardi Gras steak and corn bread breakfast and Everett’s Garbage Plate Special luncheon on Sunday.

Both of these events were associated with the 24th Winter Carnival activities that were hosted by the Akwesasne Coalition for Community Empowerment. We thank them for including our events in their brochure that generated people traffic in support of our events. We also thank CKON and Indian Time for the coverage they gave to these events because we were piggy-backed with the Winter Carnival.

The Valentine’s Day Rose Sale was a huge success thanks to the generosity of our benefactor, Jonathan Lazore. We had 50 dozen long stem roses to sell. And sell we did! Pre-orders were taken and the roses were sold out shortly after noon. Niawen kowa Jonathan and to all those who helped with the sale. We also thank Midnight Confetti store for donating balloons that gave us an eye catching atmosphere at the roadside.

The Mardi Gras Steak and Corn-bread breakfast was another huge success on Sunday. We thank all the following for their food contributions, and a special thank you to Jonathan Lazore. One cannot say enough for the members of the Fund Raising Committee and volunteers for not only donating food items, but for all their hard work. Special thanks go to Head Chef Everett Lazore and all his sous chefs in the kitchen: P.J. Herne, John Herne, Linda Jackson, Caroline Peters, Sharon Thompson, Dorothy Costello. And to the dining room and cleanup crew: Lori Thompson; Becky & Irving Papineau, and their grandson; Agatha Thompson; Matt, Sandy, Amanda & Nathan Rourke; Cecil & Nanci Ransom. A big pat on the back for all your good work for the benefit of our church.

Many thanks to the church choir who volunteered to peel 75 pounds of potatoes donated by J.D. White. Thank you to Judy Cole, Rosemary Bonaparte, Marianne Bero, Carole Ross, Bernice Lazore and any other persons that may have been omitted. Thank you and God Bless.

Over $4,000.00 was raised for our church that will also help with much needed renovations at Saint Kateri Hall.
