HELENA – Mrs. Anna Mae Besaw, 91, of 1576 State Highway 37C, peacefully passed away Wednesday morning, February 11, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family.
Anna Mae was born August 20, 1923 in Hogansburg, the daughter of the late Jake and Nancy Thompson Garrow. She graduated from the Mohawk school and married Leonard "Benny" Besaw on July 7, 1950. Benny predeceased her on November 24, 2004.
Anna Mae was a homemaker and worked for several years at Warner Brothers in Massena. She attended St. Regis Catholic Church. Anna Mae enjoyed crocheting, cooking, spending time with her grandchildren, flower gardening, watching the birds, and was an avid reader.
She is survived by her five children and their spouses, William and Barbara Billings of Massena; Marjorie and Paul Southworth of Helena; Robert "Bob" and Pauline Besaw of Presque Isle, Maine; Barbara and Ernest Parker of Nicholville; and Michael and Sara Besaw of Helena; 9 grandchildren, Jake Billings, Amy Capozzi, Amanda and Nathan Southworth, Julie Plummer, William and Elizabeth Parker, and Dakota and Lindsey Besaw; and four great grandchildren.
Anna Mae is also survived by her sister, Patricia White of Hogansburg; her brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Isabel Garrow of Hogansburg; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Katherine Dashnaw and Mary E. Garrow; and three brothers, Peter Jake, Alex, and Charlie Garrow.
Friends called at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, on Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday at St. Regis Catholic Church. Burial will be in the spring at St. Lawrence Cemetery, North Lawrence.
