Salmon River Sports Review

The Salmon River boys' hockey squad had a busy hockey week with only one day of rest in between games. The Shamrocks were scheduled to play the Islanders on Monday February 2nd, but the game was cancelled due to bad weather. The game was rescheduled for the next night on Tuesday. The Shamrocks played OFA on Wednesday, then they were back in action on Friday for a two day tournament at Massena.

Salmon River 6, Islanders 3

Riley Youngs opened up the scoring for the Islanders in the first period at the Tom Cavanaugh Arena. It was the only goal to be scored during that period.

The Shamrocks became a scoring machine in the second and third periods to outscore the Islanders 3-1 and eventually won the game 6-3.

Sean David put the Shamrocks on the scoreboard to tie up the game when he connected with a pass from Skkylar Thomas at the 1:44 mark. The Islanders answered back four minutes later when Cam Morgan fired through a shot to go ahead 2-1. Salmon River was unfazed and went on to score the next three goals. Bryton Burns evened up the score 2-2 with assists going to Ty Boots and Tanner Tarbell. The Shamrocks went ahead with 1:13 left in the second period when Thomas finished off a play set up by Burns and David.

David widened the score gap 4-2 in the last frame when he connected with Tehakwirakarenrons McDonald and Dawson George. The Islanders cut the deficit at the 7:42 mark after Michael Wetterhahn scored an unassisted goal. With 9:45 left in the third, Boots, assisted by Chad George and Thomas, pulled the Shamrocks ahead, 5-3. Thomas fired a shot past the Islander goalie with only 1:13 left in regulation time to assure the Shamrock win.

Jarrod Jackson turned aside 13 shots for the win while Miles Kearns stopped 34 shots for the Islanders.

Salmon River 4-OFA 2

The Shamrocks (8-7, 5-7) hosted OFA on Wednesday and sent the Blue Devils home with a 4-2 loss. Ogdensburg took an early 1-0 lead just one minute into the opening frame when Jared Barr scored an unassisted goal. Otto Thomas evened things up with 1:16 left in the period with assists going to Bryton Burns and Quentin Thomas.

The Shamrocks took the lead just 53 seconds into the second period when Chad George finished off the play set up by Skkylar Thomas and Sean David. Jake Cook made it 3-1 at the 10:45 mark assisted by Tyren Boots who scored the fourth goal with six minutes left in the period. Boots was assisted by Tehakwirakarenrons McDonald and Tyler Sisto. Barr struck again with four minutes left in regulation time for the Blue Devils to end the game 4-2.

Jarrod Jackson worked the crease for 21 saves for Salmon River while David Prudhomme turned away 41 shots.

Girls Basketball

FA 91, Salmon River 32

The Lady Shamrocks hosted Malone last Thursday night and the Lady Huskies took home a 91-32 victory. Malone took immediate control and led 28-6 after the first quarter. Brittany Brooks led the Lady Shamrocks with 12 points while teammate Kera Ghostlaw struck for 11. Brittany George-Mitchell tossed in four, Marietta Jock with three and Tiffany Conners chipped in two.

Taylor Poirier was the Malone leader with 14 points followed by Meghan O'Connor and Erin McDonald with 13. Alexa Prue added 11 while Abigail Collins and Victoria Monette rounded out the scoring with 10 points each.
