CALL FOR WRITTEN COMMENT ON PROPOSED AKWESASNE FINANCIAL ADMINISTRATION LAW

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne ratified Resolution 2013/2014-#142 on July 30, 2013 supporting the development of a financial administration law. The proposed Financial Administration Law would support sound financial administration practices by modernizing the rules dealing with financial management. Providing better rules for financial accountability will increase transparency and accountability to the Akwesasne community.

On November 12, 2013 the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne established a working task group tasked to undertake the development of a draft Financial Administration Law. This working task group is comprised of technicians from the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne Housing Department, Finance, Government Support Services and Executive Services; a Legal Consultant and a representative of the First Nations Management Board. In addition to these technicians, one District Chief representative from each District of Tsi Snaihne, Kana:takon and Kawehno:ke serves on the working task group.

In accordance with the Akwesasne Law Enactment Procedural Regulation (MCR 2014/2015-#115) s. 5.3 and s. 5.4, Council is calling for written comments from Members on the subject matter and content of the proposed Akwesasne Financial Administration Law.

The general nature of the provisions to be included in the proposed Akwesasne Financial Administration Law to deal with financial management will include:

• Officers and Employees

• Contractors
