A Voice from the Eastern Door

Wolves Nearing Finish Line

It's been tough for the Wolves and Morrisburg Lions to get together this year to dance.

An earlier game this year was postponed due to bad weather and that make up game was scheduled for last Thursday Jan. 29. After one period of scoreless hockey in that make up game the Zamboni at the Anowarako:wa Arena broke down and the game was again postponed.

Two nights later the Wolves met the Charlan Rebels, whom they are currently battling for the last playoff spot with, but were shut out 2-0.

Matthew Gregoire scored both Rebel's goals and is the current points leader on that club.

The next night on Superbowl Sunday they hosted the runaway St. Lawrence division leading Casselman Vikings and fell 7-3.

The first period ended 2-2 but the Wolves were held off the board in the second period while the Vikes scored twice.

In the third the visitors scored three while holding the Wolves to one.

Nic Talarico scored twice and Chris Wert chipped in with one.

Alex Conroy-Terrance, Brock Daze and Zack Seguin added an assist each while Jacob Swamp added two assists.

Logan Gauthier and Cory Garrow split the losses over last weekend.

The lost weekend put Akwesasne five points out of the last playoff spot with six games remaining.

The Wolves have a busy weekend coming up with three games in as many nights.

They travel to Glengarry on Friday to play the Alexandria Glens and Saturday they host Winchester.

On Sunday night the Charlan Rebels visit Cornwall Island.

The following weekend (February 14 and 15) they play back to back games against the Morrisburg Lions which wraps up the regular season.

Last Thursday's Zamboni-postponed game is TBD.
