A Voice from the Eastern Door
Family and friends gathered at Iakhihsohtha on Wednesday evening to see some foot stomping, hand clapping music to honor the late Betty Swamp who recently passed away. Mrs. Swamp was a long time member to a "Clogging" dance troupe for many years. Her most recent dance troupe was Drew's Crew who paid tribute to her and the Swamps family by performing their dance routines to residents of Iakhihsohtha and to family and friends of Mrs. Swamp. Mrs. Swamp's children; Lucy and Mike, along with his wife Lisa, as well as Betty's twin sister Bessie and many of her friends were there to enjoy an evening of music and dance.
Andrew Perry, founder and choreographer of "Drew's Crew," shared some stories about Mrs. Swamp and also shared how much they miss her, "I really wanted to honor Betty Swamp and this is the best way we know how. We have all traveled to Hawaii and to many other places to perform. She was dear to our hearts and we considered Mrs. Swamp to be the matriarch of our dance troupe."
They also gathered to celebrate Bessie's birthday, she turned 84 years young that evening. Cake and ice cream was served to all who attended. Solo performances were given by Andrew Perry and Joshua Monette, but it was Noah Fakir who stole the show when Mr. Crew announced Fakir would be wearing Mrs. Swamps former dance shoes.
