A Voice from the Eastern Door
The Wolves ended 2014 with a couple of losses but also showed up for a few wins, which put an end to their skid.
Akwesasne was on a nine game losing streak before a December 14th win over Gananoque 2-1. Brock Daze and Jacob Swamp scored those two.
That ended their slide but a week later on Dec. 20 they were trounced by Winchester 7-3 at Anowarakowa. The Hawks built up a 4-0 first period lead. Former Wolves Stevie Ray Adams picked up an assist on their second goal. Wolves team goal leader Nicholas Talarico made it 4-1 halfway through the second period with Zack Sequin assisting.
The visitors replied with two more to hold a 6-1 lead before Chris Wert and Talarico scored back to back to cut the lead in half.
Late in the game Winchester notched one to make it 7-3 and that score stood up.
Swamp also collected an assist for the Wolves.
The next night Akwesasne travelled to Morrisburg and beat the Lions by that same 7-3 score. The teams started the game trading goals as Chris Wert scored a minute into the game for the Wolves and Derik Dionne added one after the Lions countered. Morrisburg's Michael Paquette scored to tie it at four near the start of the second before Daze scored a pair and Dionne notched his second of the game and Akwesasne held a 5-2 lead. The Lions added one late and the final frame started 5-3. That period saw two unanswered goals from the Wolves' Swamp and Tyler Alquire.
Logan Gauthier picked up the win in goal.
The Wolves final game of the year was a week later on Kawehnoke and they were edged by Char-Lan Rebels 5-4 in overtime. The Wolves had a big third period outscoring the Rebels 3-2. Alex Conroy-Terrance, Ryan Thomas and Daze scored those.
The Terrance goal tied the game and sent it into overtime but Char-Lan scored early for the win. Daze also scored in the second period.
