A Voice from the Eastern Door

Tewasennhawi, We carry our Names December 2014

She:kon Sewakwe:kon

With the help from community members on December 4th, the formal Human Rights complaint was officially filed with the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal.

On December 5th the issue was presented to the Iroquois Caucus. They were very supportive. I expect the word to spread throughout the Iroquois territory soon.

On December 5th our lawyer also received a letter from the Honorable David Orzietti, Minister of Government and Consumer Services, stating that Alexandra Schmidt, Deputy Registrar General, will meet with us in January to discuss this issue and find a workable solution.

I hope the meeting is fruitful, if not the Ontario Human Right complaint will move forward. That process may take several months.

I will keep you updated.

Niawen:kowa to everyone who donated items for the auction, bid on the items or enjoyed the Harvest Stew and Strawberry Shortcake with us. The funds raised were used to cover the September and October invoices from the lawyers.
