AKWESASNE MOHAWK COUNCIL OF AKWESASNE CALL OUT

MCA Executive Director is in search of Interested Eligible Voters to Serve as Deputy Electoral Officer (DEO)

Term December 27, 2014 to December 31, 2017

SALARY:

$ 17.00 per hour during Training and Election preparation

$22.00 per hour during Nomination and Voting

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The appointed individuals must abide by and uphold all provisions of the Akwesasne Election Law 2005/06-192 and any successor law. Some of the duties that the DEO will be required to perform are as follows:

•Attending all training sessions;

•Assisting the CEO in the preparation of updating of Voter’s List;

•Assisting the CEO with clerical duties

•Assisting the CEO in the preparation of reports submitted to the Executive Director;

•Providing information and answering questions asked by community members during the process of a General Election, By-election or Referendum;

•The DEO is under the direction of the CEO to perform the duties required to conduct an election.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Previous experience as a DEO is an asset. The interested individual must be 21 years of age and an eligible voter. The ability to speak and understand the Mohawk language is also an asset.

Must be reliable and willing to work flexible hours; must be impartial and courteous to all electors. Pursuant to the Akwesasne Election Law Section 4.(3): “No sitting member of Mohawk Council, Justices of the Peace, or Justice of the Akwesasne Mohawk Court shall be eligible to be Deputy Electoral Officer.”

Letters of interest should be received on or before 12:00 Noon, Wednesday, December 24, 2014.
