The Massena Lady Raiders volleyball and soccer teams each enjoyed recent successes, with the spikers taking the Section 10 title and earning a spot in the state playoffs. Meanwhile, the booters took their first state playoff game.
After their third meeting of the season against undefeated Chateaugay, the volleyball team clinched the Section 10 title, earning a spot as the sole Class A school in the state playoffs.
Tatum Lafrance paced Massena with nine kills and 30 assists. Kyrsha Angus recorded 14 points from serves and garnered seven kills. Krista Loran chipped in 12 points and eight kills. Cashlynn Jaggers came up with nine kills.
Prior to taking down the Lady Bulldogs, Massena had earned a spot in that game by defeating the OFA Blue Devils three sets to one. Sabrina Sunday led the charge with six points. Angus served five points and three kills. Bailey Thomas tallied four kills.
The soccer contingent took their first contest of the state playoffs, besting Section 7 champs Peru 2-1 on Nov. 5.
Senior Paige Brothers booted the game-winner 26 minutes into the second half with the scoreboard reading 1-all. Peru's Hannah LaDuke and Massena's Abby LaClair had traded markers leading up to that point in the game.
MiKenna Merry denied nine scoring attempts for Massena.
