A Voice from the Eastern Door

Anti-Bullying Campaign at ABGC

Sometimes you got to stand up to a bully.

This month is anti-bullying month and the Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club and kids got some valuable tips on how defend yourself if it comes to that.

Joe Richer of Patenaude Martial Arts stopped by the Club on Rooseveltown Road and gave the members a scaled down version of what he has to offer at his site in Cornwall. He was only allotted an hour to share his tips, but he made the most of it and the kids seemed eager to learn.

Richer put them in a circle and taught them how to kick and punch in self-defense as well as other useful exercises. He went to the different children and poked at them to gauge their reaction. He used that reaction to tell them what they should be doing should a real bully harass them.

Patenaude Martial Arts is located on Montreal Road in Cornwall and are now offering a Stop Bullying program of their own. They want to teach any child to handle the challenges that they face at school every day.
