A Voice from the Eastern Door
On Friday October 10, the St. Regis Mohawk School held its annual Fall Fest put on by the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Students roamed through tons of tables with games and activities munching on free popcorn. Belly Buttons the Clown was there along with Tribal Police, Jreck subs, who had a game and free cookies, and the ACFS mobile unit provided great music. Students could purchase a variety of fall goodies, from sweets from Divalissa's to pumpkins from Bonesteels.
There were hayrides, five bounce houses, and the Let's Get Healthy program had an obstacle course.
The PTO had tables set up with tattoos, guess the weight of a giant pumpkin game, and a game of Pinko where every student walked away with something. Ellen Cook, Home School Coordinator, said playing the game would get every student a free book courtesy of the PTO.
Larry Thompson, Recycling Coordinator, also had a table at the festival. He explained that National Elementary Honor Society students manage a recycling business. Students collect things like toothpaste, chip bags and pencils to terracycle, and they are paid by weight. He said the purpose is to "get kids to think outside the box when it comes to recycling." The motto is "Join the race to make Akwesasne a beautiful place."
A Fall Fest favorite for sure was the petting zoo with ponies, a bunny, goats, a mule and a couple of dogs and inside was a Bat Cave in the Turtle room.
It was a great fall day for the event, and everyone had a great time.
