Seaway Valley Rapids Minor Atom

The Seaway Valley Rapids Minor Atom team took a break from the regular season to travel to Jay Peak, Vermont and participate in the Green Mountain Avalanche AAA hockey tournament. The round robin portion of the tournament began Friday, October 3, 2014, at the Ice Haus Arena against the Northstars from Westborough, Massachusetts. The Rapids’ Carey Terrance, Jr. got the scoring going in the first period. Terrance scored two more times unassisted and Jett Jock notched a point in the second period. The final score was 4-0 with Connor Fox earning his first shutout of the season. Next, the Rapids faced the New Hampshire Avalanche. The lone goal went to the Avalanche early in the second period. It was the team’s only loss during the round robin. Play resumed Saturday afternoon against the Boston Jr. Terriers. James Sullivan got the first goal in the first period assisted by Terrance. After that first goal, the Rapids were on fire scoring a total of twelve more goals. Carson Martin got a hat trick as did Terrance and lone goals went Jock, Rylan Adams, Jonah Ashby, Braxton D’Alessio, Trysen Sunday and Marco McCarthy while Fox earned another shutout. Due to the team’s loss, the Rapids had to win its final game of the round robin against the Boston Rangers. The boys came ready to play and did not disappoint. Scoring got underway in the first period when Terrance scored unassisted. He went on to get his second hat trick of the tournament on assists from Martin while Adams and Martin each notched a point. The final score was 5-0 with Tristan Shoniker earning his first shutout of the season. For the championship the Rapids faced its foe the Gloucester Rangers White from the OEMHL. Terrance scored the first goal of the game unassisted, but the Rangers were able to capitalize on the Rapids’ costly penalties. The Rangers scored twice on a power play and the Rapids failed to convert on its power plays. The Rapids’ only other goal came in the third period from Jock. The final score was 5-3 in favor of the Rangers.
