A Voice from the Eastern Door
By an anonymous mom
When someone asks how’s life with three boys, I usually answer, “It’s busy” or “You know everything is go go go”. What goes through my head though when someone asks, is like a highlight reel of all the surprising and not so surprising antics and moments. There’s mud on my walls not just the floor or the chair. With car windows up one of two of them pollute the air, if you catch on. There’s always pee on the floor in the bathroom. When I do get the bathroom scrubbed down that’s when little brother runs in the bathroom and hollers uh oh. He peed on the toilet seat lid I left down when I cleaned the bathroom. So that sparkly clean bathroom is back to square one. I step on a Lego at least three times a week no matter how many I pick up. It’s fights over nerf guns and whose turn on the iPad. There’s the grumbling about showers and the reminders to brush their teeth. Even though one is nine years old. They always want to go grocery shopping with me because they know what they want to throw in the cart. Grocery shopping three times a week and it still seems like there’s more food to go get. I learn about every car ever made because big brother knows all the makes and models and tells me. My silverware is in the garden and I can never find a brush for my hair. I have to dodge pee from the baby when I change him and I’m on my feet around the clock between all them. I’ve tried to write for two weeks but have been sidetracked by the kids every time. By the time I remember it’s past the deadline. But you know when someone else has boys you both know what it means when a mom answers, oh you know, life with boys.
