MASSENA – Mrs. Linda M. Oakes Hale, age 70, of 33 Taylor Ave, formerly of Rochester and a native of Akwesasne, peacefully passed away Sunday afternoon, September 7, 2014 at her home.
Linda was born December 27, 1943 in Akwesasne, Quebec, the daughter of the late David and Charlotte Francis Oakes and attended Akwesasne schools.
Linda was a bus driver for the Rochester City School District for many years until her retirement. She was a communicant of the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Rochester and a member of the Akwesasne Death Benefits Group. She was avid coin collector, enjoyed watching lacrosse, and going to car races. Linda also enjoyed speaking Mohawk to her family and cherished the time she spent with her family.
She is survived by her children, Robert and Denise Oakes of Rochester and Sandra Oakes and her companion, Michael Kinney of Syracuse; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Patricia and Abe Phillips, Caroline Oakes, Andrea Oakes and her companion, Joe Bonaparte, all of Akwesasne; her brothers, Herbie, Chester, Marshall, and Daniel Oakes, and William and Rose Oakes, all of Akwesasne; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Linda was predeceased by her husband, William T. Hale in 1983; an infant daughter, Belva Oakes in 1966; and a brother, Bruce L. Oakes in 1971.
Friends called Tuesday, September 9th, at the Akwesasne Homemakers where funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 10, 2014. Following cremation, burial will be in Hale Cemetery, Norfolk.
