A Voice from the Eastern Door
On Saturday, August 30, Blooming Beauty Floral & Gift Shop and The Munch Box held a fundraiser for the St. Regis Catholic Church. There were three contests including a pie, hot dog, and Jell-O eating contest. In each contest, participants had three minutes to eat as many of the food item as they could. Owners of Blooming Beauty and the Munch Box, Jonathan Lazore and Danielle Cole-Lazore, organized the event with the help of many volunteers and family. They wanted to donate to a good cause, and do something different.
They said, "Every penny coming in the building today is going to the church. Anything bought at the Munch Box, cash and carry flowers and anything else purchased is all going to the church." There was also a 50/50 and many volunteers had sold tickets before the fundraiser.
Jonathan and Danielle would like to thank Patricia Thompson and everyone at Mohawk International Raceway for the two first prizes of a pair of 2015 season tickets for MIR, and a special thank you to Corynne Laffin who helped them organize from the beginning.
The eating contests had a $5 entry fee and some contestants entered both the pie and hotdog eating contest!
Father Osuji attended the event and said, "This is my first time seeing an eating contest. I'm excited to see what goes on. Jonathan and Danielle have been so good since we've met. I first met them in April and they immediately started supplying the church with flowers, no cost. We haven't bought flowers since April! The church is only financed by the parishioners. I am so grateful for Jonathan and Danielle and wish people would take their example. We are hoping many people hear and see the importance of the church. The church is for the community, and is important for the spiritual and psychological needs of the community. Baptisms, weddings, funerals, we are here at important times in peoples' lives. Many people support the church and I wish many more would. Our goal is to keep the church open."
