Twilight Fun Run/Walk Underway

The 7th Annual Twilight Fun Run/Walk Series started up again for the summer on Thursday July 10 with the first of several sessions. The Tewathahita Walking Trail was the place to be at 5:30pm and it was the perfect weather.

The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe's Let's Get Health Program puts on the event every Thursday during the summer, with the last session being August 28. Arlene Thomas and Heather Pontius from Let's Get Healthy were on hand with water and popsicles for participants. Each week different Let's Get Healthy staff will be there from 5:30pm to 7pm.

People signed in and kept track of how many laps they completed with one lap equaling .6 miles. "We're really just encouraging family fitness," said Heather.

You can walk or run, and dogs and strollers are welcome. They will have random giveaways throughout the summer and hope to keep track of all the miles everyone walks to make a map. One year, participants "walked to Hawaii" and another year they walked all the way back!

And Let's Get Healthy was happy to report the numbers have doubled since 2012, with 82 walkers/runners/strollers on the first night. They completed a total of 263 laps, which equals a whopping 157.8 miles! But remember, you don't have to do a certain amount of laps and you can go at your own pace. Even if you can only manage one lap, Let's Get Healthy staff encourage you to come on out. Twilight Fun Run/Walk Series dates are July 17, July 24, July 31, August 7, August 14, August 21 and August 28.
