A Voice from the Eastern Door
The Louie E. King Memorial Softball Tournament was held at the American Legion Post #1479 in Hogansburg over the weekend and a large crowd came out during the two-day event. The annual event was one of the biggest, with more teams entered than ever before.
There were12 teams: Big Boy's - 1st Place, Big boys, too - 2nd Place, St. Boys - 3rd Place, King Pins, Boob Pigs, St. Regis Rec., District 5, The Jug, Mount Pounders, Spitting Llamas, Balls Deep and Pussy Energy.
The Late Jeff Connors and Andy Bero were honored for their participation in previous tournaments by having the Most Valuable Player awards named after them.
Throughout the tournament Bryan Garrow played tunes from all genres to keep the fans and players entertained.
Thank you to all of our sponsors, Coca Cola, Budweiser, Coors Light, Nations Trading, Carey Terrance & family, Big Boy's Gas & Tobacco, our family & friends, umpires, book keepers, the softball teams and players, and the spectators, that make it possible to have a successful tournament, allowing us to award scholarships to some of our local, college bound, young men and women. Thank you, also, Hubie Rourke for keeping the Legion ballfield in such beautiful shape, and to Tom Stacey for cleaning up the fields, each day. Your hard work is appreciated, guys!
We would also like to acknowledge and thank our Aunties, Mary and Annie, sisters of Louie E. King, for the support they've shown, year after year, since the first tournament in 1998, and we look forward to many more.
