EVELYN E. BUSH

AKWESASNE – Ms. Evelyn Elizabeth Bush, 72, of 67 Johnson Road, St. Regis, passed away Wednesday evening, June 25, 2014 at Ottawa General Hospital, after a period of failing health.

Evelyn was born November 18, 1941 in Potsdam, the daughter of the late Louis and Louise Terrance Bush.  She attended schools in St. Regis and Cornwall before going to a hairdressing school in Toronto.

Evelyn lived in Syracuse, where she worked in various departments at General Electric for 39 years until her retirement.  She was a communicant of St. Regis Catholic Church, where she was an active member of the Kateri Circle for many years.  Evelyn enjoyed doing native beadwork, gardening, playing bingo, and traveling.

Evelyn is survived by her loving daughter, Audrey Bush of Akwesasne; two chosen sons, Russ Jock and Kenny Leaf, both of Akwesasne; many chosen grandchildren and godchildren; three sisters, Nancy Davis and Theresa Skidders, both of Akwesasne; Dorothy Costello of Massena; two brothers, Leo and Marty Bush and Herbert and Catherine Bush, all of Akwesasne; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn was predeceased by a sister, Margaret LaFrance on December 15, 1996.

Friends called at the Akwesasne Homemakers starting Saturday, June 28th until a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, June 30, 2014 at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Anthony Osuji, celebrating.  Burial followed in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Akwesasne.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Iakhihsohtha Lodge or Kateri Hall.
