Notice to the Community

The following persons have applied for Membership under the Akwesasne Membership Code.

 Kyann Kymberly Day, age 17, daughter of Jamie Day and Kimberly Legue, a non-Indian.

Royce Jareo, age 18, son of Theresa Jocko and Randy Jareo.

Austin (age 20) and Brent (age 18) Taylor, sons of Tammy David Taylor and William Taylor (Indian Brook).

Louellyn White, age 45, daughter of Louis John White and Eleanor Currie, a non-Indian.

Chloe Doctor, age 16, daughter of Allyson Mitchell Doctor and Jeffrey Doctor (Kahnawake).

Tianna Francis-Forgues, age 17, daughter of Natasha Francis and Corey Forgues, a non-Indian.

Seven Green, age 17, daughter of Reannon McDonald Day and Courtlan Green, a non-Indian.

Johnson John, age 27, son of Alicia Cook and Steven John (Six Nations).  He is also applying for a Residency Permit.

Forest Light, age 34, son of Mark Light and Cheryl Johnson (Paiute).  He is also applying for a Residency Permit.

In order for the Akwesasne Membership Board to determine whether or not to approve these Membership applications, the Board must consider the criteria set out in Section 11 of the Akwesasne Membership Code:

a) Whether the applicant was born in the community

b) Commitment to Mohawk culture, traditions, lifestyle, and knowledge of language and customs

c) Individual or family ties to Members of the community

d) Member of a Clan

e)  Degree of involvement in the affairs of the community

f) Reasons for wanting to be a member

 Community Members have until Friday, July 4, 2014 to indicate whether they wish to make submissions regarding the above individuals by contacting the Office of Vital Statistics.

 At the Akwesasne Membership Board meeting of May 10, 2014, the Membership Board granted full Akwesasne Membership to Katelyn Garrow, Taylor Gauthier and Ronnie Boots.  The Board approved a one year Residency Permit to Michael Russell.  The Board denied the Membership Application for Aaron Garrow and Amanda Back-Pinette and cancelled the membership application for True Halliday.

Community members wishing to appeal the Membership Board’s decisions on the above applicants have 30 days to appeal to the Council of Elders by contacting the Office of Vital Statistics.  The Office of Vital Statistics is located at the Cornwall Island Administration Building #3, and can be contacted by calling (613) 575-2250 ext. 1011.
