After this week's graduation ceremonies, Salmon River High School seniors will have the chance to attend the all night grad party where they will have a safe, supervised atmosphere to celebrate their last hurrah as classmates.
Ensuring that they are safe on graduation night is a primary reason motivating the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe's Alcohol/Chemical Dependency Program (A/CDP) and parents to provide night long activities for the SRCS seniors.
Various fundraising events were held throughout the year to fund the ANG party. The biggest fundraiser event was a golf tournament held on June 7, at the Cedar View Golf Course. "The tournament was a great success!" said A/CDP Prevention Specialist, Megan Bushey. "We had to close the tournament registration because we were out of golf carts. It was a beautiful day and everyone was there to have a good time and support a great cause. There were even some first time golfers that showed up to support the all night grad party."
Many wonderful gift baskets and gifts were donated by current senior class members and their parents, community members as well as A/CDP. The baskets were raffled off Chinese Auction style to lucky ticket holders. Local businesses also helped out by becoming tee sponsors.
A spaghetti dinner was provided to all the participants in the clubhouse after each team finished. Awards were given out following the dinner. First place went to the foursome of Kevin LaFrance, Jimmy Sunday, Phillip Swamp and Terry Swamp. Second place was awarded to the team of Perry and Karen Francis, Leo Francis and Raun Moon. Last place was won by Val Dishaw, Jarrod Jacobs, Reese Jacobs and Vicky Derouchie. Rachel Jacobs was closest to the pin for the women while Trent Thomas was closest for the men. The longest drive went to Dorie Trinque for the women and Perry Francis picked up the award for the men. Patty Herne won the 50/50 raffle and donated it back to the ANG fund.
