A Voice from the Eastern Door

2nd Annual Music 4 Miracles

On Saturday, the 2nd annual Music 4 Miracles fundraiser was held at the Brass Horse and there was something for everyone.

The day started for the volunteers, and the Border Eagle Riders doing a poker run fundraiser, at about 8:30am. Rider Ron Garrow said the Border Eagle Riders do about two runs a year to help kids with medical expenses like traveling and lodging. He said, "You think you're equipped financially, then you travel a couple times and realize you're not. If people bring us the right credentials we'll help them out. We ride for the kids, that's why all these guys are here, for a good cause."

The riders left the Brass Horse around 10am and rode a total of 140 miles making four stops at the Red Tavern Inn, Charlie's Inn, the VFW in Saranac, the Timber Tavern and then back to Brass Horse. Besides what they raised, the Marine Corp. League donated $300.00.

This year, the money raised will go to Carson Phillips. Carson is 10 years old and needs reconstructive ear surgery. He was born with Microtia-Atresia, a rare birth defect. He was born with his ears closed and he has no ear canals. He also has deformed ears commonly known as "peanut ear" and is legally deaf. His mother Stacie said he will need several surgeries, but in the end he will have a 90% chance of hearing normal and he will have normal ears. Carson will need six surgeries in California with Dr. Burt Brent. He will also need two surgeries in North Carolina with Dr. Bradley Kesser. They need to raise about $20,000, a big reason being that the surgeries in California are six separate surgeries so they will need to travel six times. Stacie said, "We submitted Carson's name and we got a call that we were chosen. We are super excited."

The gates opened at noon for a family fun day. There were two bounce houses and a dunk tank. There were carnival games and prizes like a boat race, ring toss, slam-dunk and more. And of course, no kids' event is complete with Belly Buttons the Clown to paint their faces. Several food and craft vendors lined the area and the stage was continually occupied with a great act. MMA fighter Brett "The Hitman" Hart and racecar driver Jasmine David made special appearances at the event as well.

Music went from noon to early in the morning, so long they needed three emcees starting with Roger Mitchell, Kahontineh Swamp and Boopie Mccomber. Acts that performed during the day included The River Mohawks, Akwesasne Woman Singers,

Raylynn Sunday, Theresa Bear Fox,= JOC & Kota, Big C, Cortland Thompson, Presley Ransom as Katy Perry, Country Rollers and

Scott Oceans. Evening and night acts included Arcane Belief, Scott Oceans, 14 Knuckles Later, Bigg Caesar, D-Minus, Oh Norby, Tonez, David Hodges, K Town Villain, Beat Vandals, Story Tellers and REDD Ft. Joanie B. Organizer Tammy Mitchell said, "I didn't think it was going to be this big and then it got bigger and bigger. More and more people wanted to help out." It was a great event for a great cause.
