A Voice from the Eastern Door
Akwesasne took part in the 2nd Annual International Native American Responsible Fatherhood Day on June 14, 2014 at the Generations Park. The day was filled with a variety of activities designed to entertain and delight every young child and their father, grandfather, uncle, and/or father figure. This was an opportunity for father and father figures alike to spend quality time with their children.
The First International Native American was held in Honolulu, Hawaii and now Native American communities across the United States and Canada are holding their own day with activities to relax and enjoy. Children and their fathers enjoyed tug-of-war, 3-legged races, and a story telling time, and a social at the end of the day. The Hogansburg-Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department had their expanding ladder fire truck to view. And of course, there was free food to make the day complete. Prizes were given out throughout the day and the prizes were family oriented rather single person prizes.
