Volunteers Shoshoni Ireland and Jhazmayn Jacobs were on hand at the St. Regis Recreation Center last Friday, May 16th. They were sorting clothing donations for the Kashechewan First Nation people who were evacuated because of flooding in their homeland. They are staying at Nav Centre in Cornwall and expect to be there from two weeks up to one month. Mohawk Council of Akwesasne Emergency Measures program is hosting recreation activities for them, as well as clothing for elders, women/teens and children.
Shonshoni and Jhazmayn commented that they had received a lot of donations from elders. If you still have clothing to donate, you can drop it off in Cornwall at Nav Centre on Montreal Road. Photo by Deb Cook
