A Voice from the Eastern Door
Salmon River High School students and their prom guests made their grand entrance last Saturday night into the high school cafeteria that was transformed into an elegant ballroom. The theme was "A Night to Remember" with a black and white color scheme.
Every table was covered with a pure white tablecloth; a black candelabra centerpiece graced the center of each table. The chairs were wrapped in a white cover accented with a black bow. Clusters of black balloons with a white paisley like design adorned the walls. Small clear lights were wrapped in black tulle decorated with white stars laid on the window sills to give off a nice soft glow. At the top of the dance floor stood a white staircase flanked by white pillars.
Students danced well into the night to the music of DJ Bernie Brown of Wheels of Steel. Group dances such as the Cha Cha Slide and Thriller populated the dance floor as well as some dance offs.
Around 10:30 p.m. the long awaited crowning of the prince and princess as well as king and queen began. Each member of prom court was given a sash and a foil covered rose. Once everyone had their rose, the foil was removed to reveal the color. The male and female who uncovered a red rose were declared royals. With roses in hand Trenton Tarbell and Tsiotenhariio Herne were crowned Prince and Princess while Nate Smoke and Becca Leroux were crowned 2014 Prom King and Queen. A slow dance followed with the new royalty in the middle.
Junior Prom Court members were Skye Sunday, Morgan Thompson, Stephan Tremblay, Clair Russell, John Harvey, Shawnee Oakes, Chance Monette, Paetyn Greenfield, Russ Oakes and Kwiio King. Vanna Thompson, Dalton Roundpoint, Jocelyn Martin, Richard Adams, Jaiden Mitchell, Ronnie Boots, Taylor Francis, Kason Tarbell, Karonhiate Lazore and Katrina Martin made up the Senior Prom Court.
As the prom came to a close, juniors, sophomores and even freshmen, had helped senior students dance up some of their final school memories. Bright dresses featuring unique designs, tuxedos, some with camo design, strappy sandals and even tennis shoes all helped seal in the night's ambiance, making it truly 'A Night to Remember' as the night's theme suggested.
