CKON New Announcers and Programming

Akwesasne – CKON is looking to revamp some of the programs currently airing. Therefore, in the coming months CKON will be going through some growing pains as new programs are introduced and a determination is made on what works and what doesn’t. The most popular programs will remain unchanged.

At the present time, CKON is moving radio announcers around to find the best fit for them. There are two junior radio announcers who are moving to specific programs and shifts. CKON is asking listeners to be patient as the junior announcers become more confident and ease into their new roles. Training for announcers includes, but is not limited to, on-air broadcasting techniques, developing individual broadcast voice, introduction to all music genres, how to locate music manually and electronically, auditing music content, production operations, maintain music logs, develop specific program delivery, style and content and perform all of these tasks in the most entertaining way possible.

Radio broadcasting is more than sitting down in front of a microphone and spinning a few tunes. There is a lot of work that goes on behind the microphone that the public doesn’t see. Most anybody who has done a talk show at CKON can attest to being a little intimidated once in front of the live microphone. Change always brings a learning period and CKON is encouraging the announcers to take their time easing into their broadcasting comfort zone. Gaining more experience will create a seasoned radio announcer.

Along with bringing up new announcers, CKON is brain-storming on new program changes to keep current with radio and music trends. The current format has been used for many years and while it has served the listener’s enjoyment it is time to grow, move forward and expand. Staff meetings are being held so that everyone gets a chance to bring their ideas forward for discussion and possible implementation. Each new idea needs to be discussed for appropriateness, development of outline, on-air details, implementation guidelines, designation of program slot, etc. It’s hard work to bring the CKON listening community the very best in entertainment and it is hoped that listeners will remain loyal as CKON gets in tune to the future.
