A Voice from the Eastern Door
There have been some habits and preferences of the boys that I notice more now. Little brother is more vocal about pointing his out or doing them. He will kick his boots off. No matter if they are soaking wet from snow or covered in mud. He kicks them off into the wall, the couch, once in a while me. I asked him, “Why do you do that?” And his answer was, “well I’m not going to touch it with my hand!” Now that spring is on its way I should probably buy an extra mop to keep by the door to make him wipe off my walls. Another signature move is claiming an entire milk jug from the fridge. Is there one that has no cap it? Well yes then that would be his gallon. He will walk over to the fridge and swing the door open and then grab ‘his’ milk and chug it. I’m giving credit to his dad for this lovely little habit. Little brother even has really good reasons as to why this is a good thing. He’ll say, “well mom I don’t use a cup so no dishes for you!” or “if you filled a water cooler with milk and chocolate milk I’d use a cup!” I’m done arguing with him about it, the only downfall is when he tries to do it somewhere that isn’t home.
Big brother has more complex habits like hiding his popsicle sticks in the armchair that is in his room. Oh we butt heads about that one. A funny habit is that he doesn’t put his Xbox games back in their own case. So what happens is I will hear him getting annoyed in his room about a lost game or how his brother must have touched it. He always forgets he put it in a case, the wrong one. Out of their habits they do not do what the other does. It is their own little thing.
I do love the endearing little things they do together. Like making forts out of our couch cushions or placing them on the floor to make it across ‘lava’. During car rides they will try so hard not to fall asleep that they will talk to each other and say things like, “you up? Ok take first watch then get me up.” When it’s time to clean house they do it together the same way, throwing all their toys just past the doorway of their room so you end up with a wall of just tossed treasure. Then I hear, “I’m done!” like they won a race. Currently they are both into Legos so I’m looking forward to them sharing Big Brother’s huge collection instead of having to buy new ones for little brother. So far so good on the sharing.
