Notice to the Community

The following persons have applied for Membership under the Akwesasne Membership Code.

 Katelyn Garrow, age 18, daughter of Kathryn Garrow Watson (Akwesasne).  

 Aaron Garrow, age 18, son of Terrence Garrow (Akwesasne) and Michelle Marett, a non-Indian.

 Taylor Gauthier, age 17, daughter of Jake Buckshot (Akwesasne) and LeeAnn Gauthier, a non-Indian. 

 Ronnie Boots, age 18, son of Ronald Boots (Akwesasne) and Melanie Jenkins Burns, who is registered with the Mohawks of Akwesasne but is not a member under the Membership Code.

 Amanda Back-Pinette, age 21, daughter of Dave Back (Akwesasne) and Anita Pinette (Matimekush/Lac John).

 True Halliday, age 18, son of Nora Cook (Akwesasne) and Christopher Halliday, a non-Indian.

 In order for the Akwesasne Membership Board to determine whether or not to approve their Membership application, the Board must consider the criteria set out in Section 11 of the Akwesasne Membership Code: 

a) Whether the applicant was born in the community

b) Commitment to Mohawk culture, traditions, lifestyle, and knowledge of language and customs

c) Individual or family ties to Members of the community

d) Member of a Clan

e) Degree of involvement in the affairs of the community

f) Reasons for wanting to be a member

In addition, Micheal Russell, age 25, has applied for a Residency Permit under the Akwesasne Residency Law.  He is registered with the Mississauga First Nation.

Community Members have until Friday, May 2, 2014 to indicate whether they wish to make submissions regarding the above individuals by contacting the Office of Vital Statistics. The Office of Vital Statistics is located at the Cornwall Island Administration Building #3, and can be contacted by calling (613) 575-2250 ext. 1011
