Mohawk International Raceway Postpones Season Opening 'Atomic Spring Clash' Until Sunday, May 4th

AKWESASNE, NY – The after effects of a long cold winter in the North Country have forced MIR officials and promoters of the 1st Annual Atomic Spring Clash to reduce the format and postpone the events until Sunday, May 4th, 2014. An unusual amount of snow and ice remained on the track early last week, and officials determined that the track needed more time to dry out and it was necessary to postpone the event to ensure fans and competitors would have a quality event.

With some race teams already having commitments to other tracks and events, the Atomic Spring Clash will be reduced to a one day format consisting of Empire Super Sprints with a $2000 to win event, along with the Fission 50 for the Go Nuclear Late Models (Twin 25 lap Features) paying $1000 to win each, and an additional $500 bonus to the best combined finish for the two events. The second Late Model feature lineup will be determined by a “roll of the dice” inversion. There will also be a $1000 to win Sportsman event on the schedule, and even though it will not be part of the DIRTcar Series, it will still bring in some of the best Sportsman drivers and teams from the Northeast.

“We were hoping that we would be able to get this full two day show in at MIR, but at the end of the day, we had to make this decision”, says race promoter Shayne Tenace. “The track is drying out now and we will come back strong on May 4th and hopefully the weather will not be an issue”.

Admission prices for Sunday, May 4th will be $20 for adults, and only $8 for ages 8 to 15. Children under the age of 8 will be admitted for FREE. Pit Gates will open at 10am and General Admission Gates will open at 12pm. The highly anticipated ‘Legends of the North’ autograph session will take place at 1pm. Hot laps will get underway at 2pm with heat races set to begin at 3pm.

There will be plenty of cash and prize giveaways to the fans during the event, and the young race fans will have at least 10 kids bikes available to be won throughout the day.
