A Voice from the Eastern Door

Raising Resilient Kids Workshop Held at Salmon River

On Thursday night, a parent workshop called "Raising Resilient Kids" was held in the high school library at Salmon River Central School. Christine Venery from SRMT Mental Health, Mohawk Ombudsman Kim Russell and Parent Engagement Committee member Kim Forkey held the seminar. This was the first parent workshop.

Along with a program called Sources of Strength, which has been going at Salmon for about 5 years now, they have been trained in a new program Lifelines, a program that promotes whole school suicide prevention. Kim and Christine were trained as Lifelines trainees in Albany. In September, they trained over 300 staff at Salmon River, even bus drivers and cafeteria staff, on how to recognize signs of suicide and several other procedures.

The main goal of this workshop was to get parents involved. They are looking to have more workshops and training sessions in the future.
