Mohawk Council of Akwesasne staff were the gold medal winners in the Battle Royale at the 2014 Akwesasne Winter Carnival.
SRMT broomball team played hard on Friday afternoon.
MCA broomball team won the game 5 to 2.
Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe staff took silver in the Battle Royale.
MCA pulled ahead at the end of the buddy-walkers challenge.
A leg of the obstacle course included putting on snowshoes and stacking a sled full of wood and pulling it to the next station.
Part of the obstacle course included flipping a huge tractor tire four times.
Blizzard conditions and work delays didn't stop members of the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe from duking it out. On Friday afternoon, members of MCA and SRMT got ready for battle starting with a lunch of chicken, rice and beans. With full bellies they donned their winter gear, and some their puzzling brains, and went to compete in several events. The puzzlers started right away and others went out to start the outside events with a game of broomball. Other competitions included men's, women's and mixed horseshoes, buddy-walker, a fierce obstacle course and tug-of-war.
After three 15 minute periods, MCA defeated the Tribe in broomball with a score of 5 to 2. It was almost a shutout for MCA as they won every other competition, but the Tribe's puzzlers didn't let that happen winning both the 500 and 300 piece puzzle contest.
