A Voice from the Eastern Door
The Akwesasne Wolves are headed to the first round of the Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League playoffs where they will face the Casselman Vikings in a best-of-seven series. Game one will take place in Casselman on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m. The Wolves will return to Anowarakowa Arena for game two on Friday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. The winner of this round will move on to face either the Winchester Hawks or Char-Lan Rebels.
The Wolves and Vikings met six times during the regular season. Casselman won four of the contests. Akwesasne claimed both wins on their home ice.
Akwesasne ended the regular 2013-2014 season at fourth place in the EOJHL St. Lawrence division with a 22 – 19 record. The Vikings finished at the top spot in the division with a 35 – 6 record.
Stevie Ray Adams led Akwesasne in scoring for the regular season with 32 goals. He also had 29 assists. Five of Adams' goals were game-winners, the most of anyone on the squad. Dom Coyle set up the most scoring plays during the regular season, tallying 31 assists. He also fired eight goals and two game-winning goals. The Wolves roughest player was Adam Bomberry, he was cited a team-high of 57 penalty minutes. Cam Turcotte ended with 842 saves and a goals against average of 3.26. Cory Garrow had the better win-loss record of the two netminders, 10 – 7.

Final regular season game lost to Morrisburg
The Wolves lost their regular season closer to the host Morrisburg Lions on Sunday, Feb. 9. They finished the opening period tied, but the Lions came through with three unanswered goals in the middle frame to take a 4 – 3 victory.
Justin Rutley scored the first marker for the Lions 12:46 into the game, assisted by Justin Lefebvre. About four minutes later, Akwesasne's Chris Wert tied the game on a power play. Zack Seguin assisted. Michael Paquette put Morrisburg back in the lead less than two minutes into the second stanza on a play set up by Rutley. Andrew Jarvis lifted the squad to a two-goal lead 35 seconds later. The eventual game-winner came at 10:32 from Eric Evans. Curtis Evans and Drew Veenstra assisted.
The Wolves started to come back in the third period, but it wasn't enough to bring an overtime. Stevie Ray Adams scored back-to-back goals at 0:28 and 15:09. Christian Leger, Dom Coyle and Teilen Celentano tallied helpers.
Cory Garrow blocked 32 shots between the Akwesasne posts. Brandon Chilton notched 31 saves for the Lions.
Home closer: Wolves 5, Lions 1
The previous night, the Wolves took a win over the Lions for their regular season home closer on Cornwall Island. They put four goals on the board before Morrisburg answered late in the closing stanza.
Stevie Ray Adams tallied the first marker with less than two minutes left in the opening period. Hiio Herne and Christian Leger assisted.
The trio of Adams, Herne and Leger clicked once again immediately following the second-period face-off for the game-winner. Chris Wert and Christian Leger each put second-period insurance goals on the board at 8:27 and 18:06. Sean David, Teilen Celentano, Adams and Herne assisted.
David scored the last Akwesasne goal of the evening 5:49 into the final stanza. Assists came from Dom Coyle and Adam Bomberry. Justin Rutley connected for the lone Morrisburg goal on a powerplay at 7:57. Assists came from Justin Lefebvre and Kieran Devine.
Cam Turcotte made 31 saves for the Wolves. Morrisburg netminding duties were split by John Gilmer, who had 20 saves and Brandon Chilton, who tallied seven.
Wolves 6, Rebels 4
After trailing 3 – 2 after the first period, the Wolves captured a lead in the second and held onto it for a 6 – 4 win over the Char-Lan Rebels.
The Rebels opened with back-to-back goals from Nick Sanseverino and Isaac Lavallee at 4:26 and 6:24. Sanseverino was unassisted, Lavallee had a helper from Ramsey Wheeler. Two minutes later, Alex Conroy Terrance took a pass from Adam Bomberry to put the Wolves on the board. But Sanseverino soon after notched his second of the night, assisted by Wheeler, to re-take a two-goal lead. Stevie Ray Adams narrowed the gap to a single goal less than a minute later. Assists came from Dom Coyle and Hiio Herne.
The Wolves ended the second frame in the lead thanks to two unanswered goals. Brock Daze found the back of the Char-Lan net at 2:06, assisted by Coyle. Adams connected his second marker of the night about seven minutes later on a play set up by Christian Leger and Herne.
Teilen Celentano capitalized on a power play 11:18 into the closing period for what turned out to be the game-winning goal. Hayden Mancini and Herne assisted. Ramsey Wheeler, assisted by Sanseverino and Jamie Lepine, answered at 14:34, but it wouldn't be enough to go into overtime. Akwesasne's insurance goal came from Mancini, who scored unassisted with just over five minutes of play remaining.
The Wolves two goalies split net detail. Cam Turcotte ended the bout with 29 saves, Cory Garrow tallied a pair. Alex Boileau kept 32 shots at bay for Char-Lan.
Glens 6, Wolves 1
After a stalemate first period, the host Alexandria Glens put on a second- and third-period offensive assault to take the win.
David Sirois, Tristan Sabourin and Michel Lefebvre won the game for the Glens over a seven-minute stretch in the middle frame. Teilen Celentano scored the Wolves' only goal at 16:56, unassisted. T.J. Burns answered for Alexandria, assisted by Sabourin and Alex Battistelli.
Burns and Luca Ciale notched the final two Alexandria markers in the third stanza. Assists came from Battistelli, Eric Verville, Brandon Barillaro and Simon Besner.
Brett Ayers worked the Alexandria crease for 49 saves, Cam Turcotte kept 32 shots out for Akwesasne.
